Joe, if (according to you) libraries and
librarians will never be hip and cool and
nobody in your library 'thought it was hip
and cool' and you are 'Proudly unhip and
uncool' how would you be able to define
on what is 'hip or cool'?
If everything you say is actually true
mudflaps may be the coolest and hippest thing
out there right now. You would never know.

Well said. I think many library PR campaigns have gone astray when
they have chosen to appear hip and cool and not thought of the
underlying message they are presenting.
I have long believed that any organization, to succeed, must play to
its strengths and not attempt to be something it never was, nor ever
will or can be. Guess what? Libraries and librarians will never be
hip and cool. And it will always be laughable when we attempt to
portray ourselves that way. Our great strength is precisely that we
are NOT hip and cool. Think about it.
... Nobody thought it was hip and cool.
