How is this for current? We just opened doors in our new library on September 10 (a scant nine days ago!). On the first day we issued 163 new library cards and checked out nearly 2300 items (doesn't count in-house, computers, or databases use). That's about 4 times the regular checkout number in our old library and 150 more cards than usual. Things are staying busy - as of yesterday morning we had issued nearly 700 cards and checked out nearly 9000 items.
Our new library is 4 times larger than the old one and located on a park beside a lake beside a wilderness mountain. We closed for 2 weeks for the move and have had tons of news coverage. This new building was a dozen years in the making and we're joyful.
Having three self check stations and our PC reservation system saved our bacon. It's a little quieter now - but not by much. We didn't get funding for any new staff - but we need them!

Subject: [Publib] re: circulation increases in new building
I have searched the archives, and found some information about increased visits and circulations in new buildings. However, I'd like something more current. If you have any pertinent information in the last 5-6 years, would you please email me directly. I need to put together a plan to present to the board about additional staffing in our new building. Thanks, Cheri Nienke
