[Publib] Innovative Marketing Efforts

Good morning everyone!
I've been thinking about the struggle that most libraries face to get
noticed in today's technological environment. Most of our efforts at
connecting with and communicating our value to the public have centered on
in-house programming and announcements--this includes announcements on our
web sites or blogs.
Has anyone tried packaging our "product" and attaching it to community
events, or political events? Has anyone tried a partnership with a local ISP
to contribute home page content or a local newspaper to link library
resources to current news articles? Has anyone tried setting up an
information kiosk near polling places or city council or school board
meetings? In short, anything that might make the public think, "Dang! How
did I ever get by without access to those resources?"
If anyone has tried any of these marketing methods, how did it go? Was it
successful? Was it a flop? Did you get arrested or cited? I would be
interested to hear some of your experiences either on or off-list.
Thanks,
Rob
