We do use a filter moderated by librarians that is very good in
blocking child porn and not much else. We can submit sites to be
blocked or unblocked. Other than that, we limit by time.
We purchased extra bandwidth and saw use fill it up. What we did was
get some help in instituting a quality of service that prevents anyone
from using the whole bandwidth. We still have some slowness during
the after school time; however, staff can usually get their work done
because we made queries to OCLC and our ILS a first priority.
I agree with those who feel the streaming videos is more of a factor
than games. I still wouldn't want to prevent videos. I have seen
customers watching local news from some place in Africa. You just
don't get much news from Darfur here.
