Does this remind anyone else of library fund raising?

Subject: RE: [Publib] Library carpeting - tiles vs. broadloom and
otherquestions

When we installed a Spacesaver mobile shelving system in 1985 we covered the
existing floor (1963 linoleum over concrete) and the plywood ramps and
floors in the Spacesaver units with carpet tiles made by Mohawk as I recall.
The tiles were a brown-and-cream-tweed. Over 20 years later the tiles still
adhere to the various floor surfaces quite nicely, despite book carts and
ladders that we were constantly moving across them, the installation of an
improved smoke detector system and all sorts of wiring/cabling projects that
involved drilling through concrete block walls.

The tiles showed very little wear and the tweed is very practical, goes with
everything and still looks stylish, compared to trendy colors that designers
like to put in. I'd install this product at home if I were putting carpet
in. Personal aside: we removed 30-year old broadloom and had the hardwood
underneath refinished last spring, messy project but it turned out
beautifully and is much easier to keep looking nice than carpet.

The floors in the library/archives were vacuumed and cleaned far less
frequently than the solid bluish-gray broadloom laid down in the President's
Office and the Business Office. Our carpet tiles just did not show the
effects that other, less-trafficked, areas did.
