[Publib] Trouble in the LA library.

It's not limited to urban libraries. At my last library I was threatened, there was graffiti inside and out, the place was egged, we called the police routinely because of fight threats. You couldn't keep the kids to a dull roar and the parents would get mad if you kicked them out.

But the restrooms were clean.

This was a rural Washington town of under 10,000.

Of course, this is not a new issue. Security is a problem for all urban libraries, not just LAPL. I know that branches have begun locking the restrooms as a precaution against grafitti, but unless a staff member checks after every user returns the key, I don't necessarily see that as a deterrent.

I daresay custodial problems may be caused by budget cuts. Does Central Library have workers on hand all hours the library is open who can respond to requests to clean restrooms? How often do custodians clean branches?
