If you want to see how much fun we're having out here in California, go  
watch the live videos of the current firestorm(s).  You can find  them--you're a 
librarian, right?  
 
At any rate, we are here, burning up as usual, not complaining.  Hey,  how 
come the rest of the country doesn't come around when we have our disasters?  
About a thousand burned out of their homes, quarter of a  million 
evacuated--jeez, where's New York or New Orleans when you need  them?  Waiting for our big 
earthquake, I guess.  Whatever you do,  don't send blankets, okay?  Maybe you 
could all just make up a "California"  ribbon to wear in support of us.  Make 
it fire-colored, with a ragged  border to suggest shaky ground.
 
Wait, now that I think about it, you guys should stay home.  We don't  want 
any more folks deciding to stick around for the winter weather.
