Why not "A Christmas Carol"? It's a great book, and many people only think
they know it through popular culture. 

If they're into collections, I happen to like the stories in "The Worst
Noel." It is panned on Amazon but ranks well in LibraryThing, so go figure.
The first story, "Donner is Dead," is very funny (and not as grim as it
sounds).
