Greetings,
You could have the scan sent to a local reference email account -
I would set up one in g-mail since it can accommodate big files -
then forward it to the patrons e-mail account. That way, you would
retain local control and not have to worry about security issues.

Subject: [Publib] Letting patrons scan to email
We've had a large number of patrons request that we provide scanning
services that would let them scan and send something to their email. Our
current copier contract is ending and the new vendor says that they could
provide this service on our new copy machines if we want.
My question is: how many of you let patrons scan to email? I learned from
IT that if we open the relay that allows scanning to addresses outside of
our domain, then we could have problems with incoming spam, blacklist issues
for our email address, etc. I checked with Kinko's and they only let their
customers scan a document and then burn it to a CD; then the customer has to
go use a computer and email it to the recipient themselves. This, of
course, would require separate equipment, since copy machines (multifunction
devices, they call them now) can't burn to a CD.
I'd appreciate any help and discussion you can provide on this subject.
We're stumped; we want to provide the service to our patrons, but don't know
how.
Thank you.
