I am delighted to announce that the voters of Derby, KS overwhelming
said "yes" to build a new library building! A special election was held
Tuesday, October 16 with 64% voting in favor and 36% opposed. At a vote
of almost 2 to 1, we are thrilled with the statement that was made.

The voters approved a one-half percent sales tax for the $9.4 million
project. The sales tax is a continuation of the one currently paying
for the Rock River Rapids Aquatic Park. The sales tax appropriated for
the new library will not begin until the aquatic park has been
paid-in-full, approximately 2010. The shoppers in Derby will not see
any increase in their sales tax as the library tax will seamlessly begin
when the aquatic park tax sunsets.

The current Derby Public Library is a 9,000 square foot building; the
new library will be more than 36,000 square feet. We envision this new
building becoming a beautiful community gathering space and cornerstone
for our community.

Derby was recently acknowledged as one of the top 10 places to live by
the Family Circle Magazine and was ranked 49th by U.S. News as one of
the best places to retire. This new library building will be one more
reason for Derby to take pride in its community!

We expect to break ground in 2008 and hope to be in our new building in
2009.
