[Publib] Questions about Fees

Paula, if the material smells to the point where it can not be returned
to the collection we at Rockford Public Library charge a replacement
cost plus an additional ten dollars for processing. It is definitely
something that we do not want to circulate to other customers. Once the
customer pays for the damage item it now belongs to them to do whatever
it is they wish. We also allow for the customer to purchase a
replacement copy (exact title) if it can be secured from another source
that maybe cheaper than what we would charge them.

Subject: [Publib] Questions about Fees
Does anyone charge patrons fees for "smelly" books?
We have a problem with books being returned that have to be aired out
for
days before being placed back into circulation. We are having a
discussion
whether or not this constitutes damage to the book and if a fee should
be
imposed.
Your input is appreciated.

ends.
