As Chair of the ASCLA Awards Committee, I wish to single out one of our awards for which public libraries certainly would be eligible. The Library Services to Special Populations Section (LSSPS) of ASCLA has been active in initiating the Award described below which recognizes library services to people with disabilities.
I am sure that public libraries throughout the country are active in serving people with disabilities. We would like to recognize one of these libraries on behalf of all libraries who are performing this service. You may see some of the libraries who previously received this award by going to: www.ala.org/ascla/awards You may obtain a nomination form by accessing the awards page, clicking on Nomination Forms in the left column and then clicking on the phrase "on this website" in the first paragraph.
Here is the information on the award:
ASCLA/KLAS/NOD Award is a $1,000 award and certificate for a library organization that has provided services to people with disabilities. The award recognizes an innovative and well-organized project that successfully developed or expanded services for people with disabilities. The award can be for a specific service(s) program or for a library that has made its total services more accessible through changing physical and/or attitudinal barriers. Donated by Keystone Systems.

I do hope that you will assess your own services or that of a neighboring library or other library that you know of which has served people with disabilities effectively. We have extended the deadline from December 15 to December 31 to enable more nominations to be made. Thanks for your help.
