[Publib] signage in the library

One of the best library signs I have

seen is a neon question mark above

the reference desk at UConn. I think

it was very effective as a result of its

simplicity and common use in

many languages.

a: We have three "Ask Here" desks, one on each floor - they all serve as
"information desks" but we also refer to the third floor desk as the
"reference desk" since it's on the nonfiction/reference floor. The signage
says "Ask Here" on a big Indian-paintbrush-red circle - same on all floors.
See photo here (scroll down):

b: we're still debating this one so no signage yet, but we are referring to
it as "the front desk." Not ideal because there are two other desks near it
(the Ask Here desk and the greeter desk). We've considered "Library Cards
and Accounts" but it's not a name that rolls off the tongue.

c: Two signs near the collections, "Movies games and music" and
"Audiobooks".

Hope this helps.

We are going through a redesign and as part of this we are looking for names
for areas of the library. Please let me know "what do you call your." for
the following areas. We are looking for catchy, descriptive, non-jargon
names for a) the information desk (which is being changed to a stand-up
rover station), b) the patron accounts desk (since we are going to
self-check and do not want to call it the check-out desk), and c) the
central collection of audio-visual materials.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. We need some help thinking outside the
box and if you know of any articles discussing this I'd love to hear about
them too.

Thanks to all.
