John,
The last time I started a music collection I used a book called "MusicHound Rock: The Essential Album Guide" by Gary Graff - although it's ten years old now it would be a good resource for classic rock selections. HTH>

Subject: [Publib] Requesting help selecting music CDs
Dear Publib,
I have been tasked with ordering a substantial amount of new CDs for our music collection (about $4000). Our collection contains several hundred discs, but many are duplicates, significantly lessening the number of actual titles. I'm trying to order not only a good sampling of the best rock and pop, but also classical and Spanish-language music. Are there any selection lists that have been developed for this purpose? Or can any of you suggest resources that I might consult? I am working hard to order items that will be the most well-received, not only titles with which I am familiar.
Sincerely,
John Reid
