We do a amnesty for fines (again, as others, not for previous fines, just
current) for a couple of weeks a year, either during January, or on and
around National Library Week.  We used to do it twice a year, but way too
many people were holding their books, waiting for that time
even now, we get
calls asking when our next “Fine Free Week” is.  We also do not waive fines
on  museum passes we lend, as those fines are $5.00 a day (books are still
.05, dvds are .50).  We do ask for a donation of nonperishable food, as we
are a drop off point for our local food pantry.  I’d say less than ¼ of the
folks who participate do bring in food
