[Publib] 175th anniversary of U.S. public libraries

In close proximity to the dates of the 2008 Public Library Association
Conference, the 175th anniversary of a major milestone in the development
of public libraries in the United States will occur. On April 8, 1833, the
Peterborough Town Library was founded in New Hampshire, making it the oldest
tax supported free public library in the world. Hopefully, there will be
some recognition of this important occasion at the conference. For more on
