[Publib] amnesty for fines

We have done things a couple of ways. During National Library Week, we
typically have an amnesty time -
"just-bring-in-the-old-overdue-items-and-we-will-waive-the-fine". Then,
during the holiday season we have given out coupons worth "$x.xx" off of any
fine for each item of non-perishable food brought to the library. The
coupons could be used immediately, or kept (for up to a year, I think) for
future fines. The coupons were not able to be used to pay off fees for lost
books, faxes, copies etc. etc - just overdue fines on items that have been
returned. Both programs seem well-received.

Subject: [Publib] amnesty for fines
Does anyone do a fine amnesty around the holidays? If so, what are the
guidelines? I am trying to convince my boss to allow me to waive fines up to
$5 for people who bring in a toy for a local charitable organization. They
have their own form of the angel tree program.
Thanks in advance,
