Veterans'  Day is the 11th of November.  When you hear the politicians making 
their  speeches about sacrifice and gratitude, keep the following in 
mind--and also  think about what this means for your library, in terms of what to 
expect and  what to provide in the way of services: 
The  National Alliance to End Homelessness will release a report tomorrow 
whose  information and conclusions are sobering indeed.  According to the report, 
Veterans make  up one in four homeless people in the United States, though 
they are only 11  percent of the general adult population.   
Advocates  say the early presence of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan at 
shelters does  not bode well for the future. It took roughly a decade for the 
lives of Vietnam  veterans to unravel to the point that they started showing up 
among the  homeless.  Analysts in the field  believe that the that intense, 
repeated deployments have left newer veterans  particularly vulnerable.
