Actually, I've found UPS service to be exceptionally good, whether it's been deliveries to work -- downtown major city, or home - suburb about 7 miles from downtown.  When my son's had a fairly heavy package delivered last year, the UPS guy brought it upstairs to his room! 

A couple of months ago Archives List had quite an extended discussion on the merits (or lack thereof) and UPS outpolled the rest of the competition by about 3 to 1.  When my daughter was attending university in Aix-en-Provence during her junior year in college, I needed to send her a package asap and UPS delivered it to her dormitory in about 5 days.

Big city, small town, U.S. or abroad -- Brown gets my vote for packages anytime.
