[Publib] auctions

I'd like to hear from libraries that have had auctions of artist
decorated items.  I am thinking book ends, chairs, and the like.  How
did you go about it?  How did you get artists involved?  Silent or
live auction?  Was the auction held in conjunction with another event
such as a meal?  Was it a success?  What worked real well, what would
you have done differently?
