[Publib] unaccompanied adults in children's area

I know this was a topic a few years ago, but I’ve
just had it happen twice today and I’d love some
input.
How does your library handle unaccompanied adults
in children’s areas? These are not adults who are
using the collection but individuals who just
want an accessible electrical outlet so they can
use the library Wi-Fi.
Our library did not have a procedure in place but
one was created after a parent complained that an
adult patron was staring at her children and the
director empowered us to request that
unaccompanied adults who were just in the
lower-level children’s department hanging out
would be more comfortable in our perfectly
adequate upstairs adult area. This has worked
wonderfully and 99.9% of patrons are great about
it. It’s that .1% that feels it’s discriminatory
and I’m being a pill.
Does your library have a policy, procedure, or
tradition in place?
Thanks in advance.
