[Publib] New Building question

I would like to invite anyone who is interested in the subject of new
library buildings to contact the Texas Library Association. We are
offering a pre-conference at our annual conference on how to build a
library. We are taking an interesting approach to the project. In the
morning, we will offer insights from renowned library architect and
designer Anders Dahlgren and his associates on the overall approach to
designing a good building and in the afternoon will offer break-out
sessions on designing and building a public library, a school library
and an academic library.
You will need to join TLA for 2008 in order to participate in the
conference (https://secure.txla.org/secure/membership/memapp.asp) and
then pay $85.00 to participate in the pre-conference. Lunch will be
provided as well as break-out food. The pre-conference will be on April
14, 2008 in Dallas, Texas, at the Dallas Convention Center, easily
accessible from DFW airport.
We hope to answer as many questions as possible about how to solve
building issues with new libraries: why won't the architect put a
loading dock on the building? Not grading the slope to save money? Green
buildings? Etc.
Hope to see you there.

The opinions are my own; the library wouldn't want 'em!

Subject: Re: [Publib] New Building question

I would suggest taking a look at two books on this topic that review
library buildings nicely designed:

"The New Downtown Library: Designing with Communities" by Shannon
Mattern ((c) 2007)

"Heart of the Community: The Libraries We Love" edited by Karen
Christensen and David Levinson ((c) 2007) more of a love affair with
great libraries but also includes some newer facilities with great
design features.
