[Publib] RE: Computer room layout

We have a 3 year old library which has 2 stories. The 24 computers in the
Adult Dept are clustered together in front of the Reference Desk. In the
Children's Dept there are 7, again clustered together to the side of the Juv
Desk. We also have a portion of the second floor unfinished for future
expansion.

What we have found is that there seem to be separate needs - the folks who
need to concentrate and need quiet, and those who want to work in a group
and be able to talk (and talk loudly, rough house etc) We have thought
about using the unfinished area for computer use - with a quiet room and a
group use room. That would possibly better serve the public and serve the
folks who aren't using computers in the Juv and Adult areas.

I'm also not sure if clustering the computers close together is the best
option - maybe it's less expensive and possibly better for the staff, but
not as good for the users. Just my thoughts so far.
