[Publib] Re: Book Displays

I have no facts or figures, just anecdotal evidence. About three weeks ago
we started placing an upright book cart near the new book shelves with a
sign "Waiting for the latest ______? Try these." and filled the cart with
read-a-likes. We had originally done it because the patrons were complaining
about a lack of new books. Well, the new books have been pouring in and
that cart still empties out on a regular basis. I usually refill it twice a
day. We've gone through Stuart Woods and Diane Mott Davidson read-a-likes
because they had all been checked out. Now we're on to Barbara Delinsky.
Maybe your powers that be aren't impressed with a measly 20 to 40 extra
circs a day for a minimal effort display, but it sure seems to be worth the
effort to me. Our regular displays are in locked cases, but people still
frequently ask us to unlock the display so that they can borrow the book.
