Greetings,
In general, I think a corporate bookstore mission statement
would read something like:
Make the most money that you can from the product
you are selling.
With that mission in mind, I think bookstores work very hard
to create the most efficient methods that they can to make
money. The greater the efficiency, the greater the profits.
Sell and move as much product as you can as fast as you can.
Beat the competition. Win.
I think there are always lessons that can be learned from
corporate efficiencies. However, I think that some of the truths
that are derived from corporate methods are not really in line
with the fundamental mission of libraries:
Inform, educate, and entertain everyone equally.
