[Publib] Adult Summer Reading Program--Staff Eligible?

Hello,

We have a separate summer reading club for staff. There are prizes that
are donated from our staff organization. You may even have local
businesses that would be willing to donate items, or you could ask your
Friends organization for prizes.

I think it's only fair to separate staff from the general summer reading
club. If a staff member were to win any prize, no matter how small, the
public could get upset by this and claim that there was a fix. It's
quite common for businesses to exclude their staff (and sometimes even
their families) from participating in contests where prizes are awarded.

Subject: [Publib] Adult Summer Reading Program--Staff Eligible?

Hi,

This will be the second summer we are having a 5-week
Summer Reading Program for Adults. Basically, there
will be incentives (free DVD checkout coupon), weekly
prize drawings ($5 gift cards as prizes), and grand
prize drawings at the end of the five weeks (prizes
would be ipod shuffle, portable dvd player).

Last year, interested library staff members could
participate in the program and they were eligible for
the free DVD checkout coupon incentives and the weekly
prize drawings, but were excluded from the grand prize
drawings. But of course, many of the staff felt it
was very unfair that just because they were employed
at the library, they would be excluded from the
drawings.

What are the guidelines for staff participation in
your adult summer reading programs? Are your staff
eligible or not at all? I'm interested in hearing
from you.

Shannon
