[Publib] Efficiency in Technical Services

First off, what did they base their statement on? How do they know you
have too many people in Tech Services?

It sounds like you are already taking advantage of a variety of vendor
services. Are you also having the shelf ready materials drop-shipped to
each of the locations? That could save time. Does Horizon support
electronic ordering and invoicing? That would save a lot of keying in.
We put a lot of materials on standing order to save time in selecting
(Bestsellers, large print, paperbacks, graphic novels, audiobooks, test
books, etc.). What kinds and what percentage of materials do not arrive
shelf ready?

In my experience, it's usually a combination of using the ILS to the
fullest, training staff to do things more efficiently and using vendor
services to the fullest. And don't forget, the vendor services that
aren't free will eat into the collection budget.
