[Publib] Use and Identification

Here is just a bit of evidence from a very small
and specialized sample.
The Cicada YouTube link that I posted here at
3:57PM EST on Tuesday has had over 500 viewers.
PubLib is the only place where I posted the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow7cZigboR4
The hit counter for YouTube counts in aggregate,
so I am not sure how many times it has been
viewed so far. However, the last count showing is 534.
The clip is 31 seconds.
So, a target audience of 534 people interested in
public libraries spent 31 seconds each viewing
a Cicada avatar with a library message
for a total 275 minutes of face time.
The issue of YouTube, Flickr, blogs, podcast use
and identification with libraries along with books,
videos, dvds, and microforms is content. If you
provide something that interests people, they will
read, view, and participate.
Apparently, they like bugs.

Come to that, I have no evidence (thus far?) that any of the so-called
Library 2.0 initiatives (we Flickr, blog, podcast, e-ref, delicious,
etc. etc. ) actually increase patron use of or identification with the
library.
