POSITION:        City Branch Reference Manager

 

LOCATION:      Brentwood Branch

SALARY:          $33,737.60 annually with benefits

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position, approximately 40 + hours per
week.  Must be available to work any hours the library is open.  As a
condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best
provide user services and to meet the Library's responsibility to the
citizens of Greene County.

 

*        Education and experience shall be evaluated with regard to recency
and quality, as well as quantity.  To receive credit for any college courses
or degrees, transcripts must accompany your application.  Based on the
number and quality of applicants, applications may be reviewed for
qualifications beyond the minimums stated herein.

 

*        Library employees desiring consideration must have received a
satisfactory performance rating on their last performance evaluation, must
be currently performing their duties at a satisfactory level, and must

Job Description

 

 

 

 

Position:  City Branch Reference Manager

Classification: Librarian II      

FSLA:   Exempt 


Salary Track:  M


 

 

 

Essential Functions

 

*         Timeliness: Since employees in this position work with other staff
and provide assistance to the general public who patronize the Library they
must be punctual and timely in arriving to work and completing tasks.  They
must also be capable of working all hours as may be needed for coverage of
their department.

*         Ability to work with others and the general public:  Reference
Department Manager jobs are interdependent and mutually dependent regarding
other job categories.  They also have a high degree of contact with Library
patrons.  Therefore, it is essential that individuals who work in this
position have the ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant,
and constructive manner with others.

*         Responsible for all Reference Department services and resources. 

*         Assist patrons with reader's advisory, information, and location
of library materials.

*         Prepares and monitors material and equipment budget for
department. 

*         Coordinates interviewing, hiring, training and evaluates branch
reference staff.

*         Arranges staff work schedule to accommodate public service needs.

*         Assists and instructs patrons in operation of public access
computers, copy machines, indexes and reference materials.

*         Operates technologically advanced computer equipment, databases,
fax machines, and PCs.

*         Frequent telephone reference and information work. 

*         Attends district reference meetings.

*         Prepares written departmental reports and correspondence as
required. 

*         Public speaking to community groups.

*         Informs departmental staff of changes in library policies and
procedures, serves as liaison to branch manager. 

*         May be assigned to do systemwide reference projects.

 

Education/Experience

 

*         MLS/MLIS Degree  

*         Three years library experience.

*         Supervisory experience.

*         Internet and PC literate.

 

Skills/Job Knowledge

 

*         Ability to interact pleasantly, constructively, and cooperatively
with library patrons and staff.

*         Excellent communications skills, oral and written.

*         Ability to effectively listen to and respond to patron inquiries.

*         Ability to perform essential job functions during times of high
public usage.

*         Extensive knowledge of branch and system reference collections.

*         Thorough knowledge of public library reference resources and
services, including online resources.

*         Computer and keyboard skills, 35 wpm, to include windows, word
processing and spreadsheet construction.

*         Supervisory skills.

*         Ability to plan and implement adult programming. 

*         Ability to effectively direct work activities within branch
reference department. 

*         Effective problem solving and decision making skills.

*         Flexibility in dealing with a broad range of library functions.

*         Effective public speaking skills. 

 

 Contact

 

*         Regular, daily public contact.

*         Works closely with other branch personnel and other reference
department managers, branch managers and District Reference Manager.

*         Regular contact with all system departments. 

*         Routine telephone contact with other departments and branches.


 


Supervision


 

*         Supervised by Branch Manager.

*         Supervises the Branch Reference Staff.

 

Physical Demands

 

*         Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor
level to 6 feet in height.

*         Displays good coordination and mobility.

*         Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 20 lbs.

 

Working Environment

 

*         Primarily indoor with heating and cooling regulated in a general
library environment.

 

Miscellaneous Requirements

 

*         Must be able to pass a security background check, if applicable.
