[Publib] Periodicals check-in

Would like to take an informal survey of public libraries, although this
is more of a tech services-type question:
We are wondering if other libraries that add periodicals (just our
general collection of popular magazines) to their online system also
continue to manually check them in (using the check-in cards). Wondering
what might possibly happen if we stopped the manual check-in. Or are we
the last library actually still checking in manually and adding to our
system?
