I'd put in a plug for a place for a patron to sit while being helped that
won't block traffic flow. I've to pull over a chair from a table for more
than one elderly or disabled patron, and the only place to put it is right
in front of the counter, where other patrons have to walk around it. Have
part of the counter that is wheel-chair usable from the patron side would be
a plus. Making sure there is space for a keyboard and a couple of large open
books on the surface so the librarian isn't juggling things and that she or
he can reach the keyboard and see the screen while talking on the phone
would also help.
Mary Elizabeth Allen (whose last reference stint Tuesday night brought the
stunning question, "if I bring my 10 year old son over, will one of the
librarians do the percent problems on his homework.)
