[Publib] Public fax machines

I used to work at a library whose public fax machine takes a prepaid card, purchased from the library in either a $5.00 or $8.00 amount. It can also use the patron's credit card. No cash is involved at all beyond the purchase of the card (which is actually a phone card and can be used as such if it isn't entirely emptied by the fax use). Patrons aren't too happy about no cash and we've been told the charge is fairly high, but if they are desperate I guess it's better than nothing.

We offer self-serve public faxes and scans through the public copy
machine. The copy machine is 10 cents per page. I have tried to
configure this coin-op to "charge" patrons for faxes and scans, but have
been told that the coin-ops work through the paper handling tray, one
sheet of paper = one charge. I have not found a system that will charge
for this other type of service. We ask that patrons pay at the
circulation desk for a fax (some do) and scans are free. I would be
interested to hear if anyone has found a way for patrons to pre-pay for
self-service faxing at the machine.

For those of you who offer public faxing to your patrons, do any of you
have
self-service coin-op type machines that the public run by themselves?
