For guidance on when to discard/replace ASVAB and GED books, please contact your local recruitment and adult learning centers. They can tell you when the tests have changed significantly.
At the library where I used to work, some young guys borrowed ASVAB books that were several years old, studied using them, and failed the ASVAB. After that, we contacted the recruiter to find out when the test had changed and discarded all outdated ASVAB study guides.
We worked closely with our local adult learning center to make sure that we had current study guides for the GED.

What! You can keep ASVAB and GED books for a whole year? At any library
I've ever worked at the question of replacements for them has been how often
do we replace the stolen or never returned copies - quarterly, twice a year,
or yearly. People in Minnesota must be much more honest than the folks in
Pennsylvania. Either that or Stephen King's Library Police works in your
library.

Hello out there in PubLib Land:
Does anyome have a rule of thumb for how often test preparation books
need to be replaced? Do you manually check every year to see if there
have been updates? Is it important to replace the books whenever they
release a new edition or only when the test itself has changed? And
how do you find out if there have been changes to the tests? We have
quite a few for different civil service jobs as well as ASVAB and GED
books and replacing them all every year would be financially
restrictive. We do have access to LearningExpress Library, but many
of our patron prefer a book they can take home to study from, and I
am looking for guidelines from those of you who are in the know!
Thanks,
Deana
