We just made some changes at the beginning of the year that has made our
small Spanish collection get more use and at least look better:
-we moved the adult Spanish language materials to a nicer area closer to
where our English language classes are taught.
-in order to keep this area looking fresh and new, we spent some of our
budget and added 6 Spanish language magazine subscriptions. This keeps
new items coming in every month often with great looking covers. We
allow the magazines to be checked out, except for the most current
issue.
-we added a few shelves for face out display for our newer Spanish
language books

Kevin, I'm beginning to think the same thing. I collect the Spanish
language materials for a medium sized library. We have lots of new
Mexican immigrants with little or no English, and I have used that as
the rationale behind my collecting. You're right tho...if they have no
reason to expect new materials on a regular basis, they have no reason
to make the library a regular stop. I think our circ is getting better
because there's more to choose from. I just had a meeting with a rep
from McNaughton...they have a lease plan for Spanish language materials.
Our biggest circing Spanish items are the DVDs and anything related to
learning English.
