[Publib] Another one of those "I read this book...." questions.

I’ve just heard from the editor of the weekly here in Henry County with a
request for some info.  Like so many of us, he can remember a little about
two items, but not enough to find the source.

 

Here are his words:

 

   I need to pick the library sciences past of your brain. I am trying to
find two written works, and I'm hoping you can help me.

 

  One is a short story. I read it in a horror anthology that would have been
published in the eighties or very early nineties. I don't remember who wrote
the story, nor who edited the anthology, nor the title of the story. Is that
specific enough for you? The story featured the narrator and his uncle, both
of whom had a hobby of investigating séances in the late 19th century. They
investigate fraud mainly, but when the uncle dies he contacts his nephew. I
remember one line towards the end, the uncle is wandering about the
afterlife, rather upset, and he says something like, "There's no one in
charge here." Is that enough clues for you to locate the story?

 

  The other work is a non-fiction book on the history of corporations, and
how they relate to the Constitution (as in being treated like individuals
rather than companies). It would have been published after 2000, I believe,
but don't hold me to that. I also know that in the appendix of the book
there are template ordinances that municipalities can adopt to bar big box
corporations from setting up shop in the city limits.

 

I’m out of pocket for the rest of the day, so all I can do is see if I can
dredge anything up from my memory. If anyone has any ideas, I’d appreciate
it, and I know that Josh would.
