My staff is in a quandary over a resent spat of reference questions,
although we believe they may be coming from the same individual. The question each
and every time is "How long does it take for a person to die from carbon
monoxide poisoning?"

You might wish to add that it is now very difficult to kill yourself with
car exhaust fumes. See:

On the other hand, you can make yourself extremely ill. As to how long, it
depends upon the concentration, and you can tell your patron that it is tough
to get a high enough concentration for lethality--if that weren't true, all
the idiots who bring barbeque grills indoors would be statistics now.

What you may be looking at is an offshoot of the current fascination with
death arising from the CSI type programming on television, in which supposedly
expert folk solve suspicious deaths within the hour, minus time for
commercials. I walked through the living room the other night and found my wife, who
has an entire library of such videos, watching as some victim was peeled from
a hard surface beneath the gaze of a lovely investigator and her handsome
assistant. And people wonder why I don't watch television.
