I've gotten some emails suggesting that this phrase is actually a play on  
words, a shift from an actual person's name who might have been a regular  
entertainer at the temple.  If I had any brains, I'd just email the folks  out 
there to see if anybody's old enough to recall such a person.  Mind  you, the 
announcement for the meeting was dated 1953, and it was the Senior  League--most 
of those folks have gone to their reward.  The only person I  know that old is 
Sue Kamm, and she remembers rooting for the Brooklyn  Bridegrooms.
