This happened to us a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if it was the same company but it got to the point where they were threating to turn our account over for collection. After numerous phone calls, letters, etc. our board of trustees drafted a letter informing them we were turning everything over to OUR attorney, never heard from them again. Howerver, once burned ... now if anyone calls to "update" info, we always ask what for and are you going to charge us for any publications.

Hello,

We are the recipients of the loving attention of "Executive Solutions"
(address varies weekly, but presently seems to be in Montreal). The
firm
seems to be in the business of calling up businesses, telling them that
they
need to pay to renew their "Virtual Listing" in the directory, and
asking to
confirm the business address. A few weeks after the call an invoice
shows
up, and when one contacts them to explain that a listing in the
directory
was never ordered, they evidently employ the rarely-used customer
relations
tactics of sarcasm and yelling. Charming resume.

Anyway, I got such a phone call, uh-huh-ed my way through it while
simultaneously ordering books and typing a report for our board, and
now I
have an invoice to dandle on my knee. $429.99 for a "12 Month Virtual
Listing," which was evidently ordered virtually as well. :-P

Just checking to see if other libraries have heard from these cretins,
and
if so, is there a magic word/phrase which will banish them? Something
along
the lines of "I know Alberto Gonzales, and when I tell him about you
he's
going to open up a can of quaintness on you" would be ideal.

tia
