Perhaps your goals for the group and the goals of the other readers
don't match.
Personally, I don't join book discussion groups because most of my
reading is for my own pleasure, and frankly I don't want someone else to
dictate, or worse, try to shame me into reading something they think is
"better for me" (my words) than what I want to read.
Yes, I am a little defensive, having been told many times that what I
like to read is "trash."

Good Morning
I am a library student, new to this listserve. I am
in charge of a book club that is among a few of my
close friends. The issue I am dealing with is that I
tend lose attendance if I select a book that is not
your typical 'chick-lit' style of book. Does anyone
know of any ways for me to introduce and create
excitement in reading books in other genres (i.e.
nonfiction, or more thought-provoking books)?
