We have a full-time children's librarian position open at the Farmers
Branch Manske Library in Farmers Branch, Texas. We have an active
department and offer programming for infants and youth up to 17 years
old. 

SALARY
$48,000 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans and conducts programs for youth of all ages; designs and prepares
artwork for pamphlets, signs, and advertising regarding the library and
future events; creates flannel board stories and puppet shows for
children as needed; selects appropriate library materials for children
and young adults; plans and creates bulletin boards for children’s and
young adult areas; assists children and young adults in learning to use
the library efficiently; and assists the Youth Services Supervisor in
planning library events, performing school visits and serves in
supervisor’s capacity in his/her absence.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or
University.  
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good knowledge of the general practices, procedures and operations of a
library and children’s and young adult literature, young people and
library tools.  Skill in designing promotional materials and in planning
and conducting programs for children and young adults.  Ability to
develop and implement policies, programs and procedures necessary to and
consistent with the achievement of Library goals and objectives. 
Ability to communicate with the public and especially with youth. 
Ability to be creative and to teach young people to use the library.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work flexible hours including week-ends and evenings. 
Mobility within an office environment.
