INFORMATION & ADULT SERVICES DEPARTMENT HEAD (Position
Reopened) 

The Manitowoc Public Library (MPL) is seeking a
qualified individual for the position of Information &
Adult Services Department Head. MPL is the
headquarters library for the Manitowoc-Calumet Library
System, a federated library system consisting of two
counties and six member libraries in east central
Wisconsin. MPL participates in consortia for shared
automation, telecommunications, and Internet access,
and is just beginning the process of implementing a
new SirsiDynix system, replacing our current Dynix
Classic system.

Manitowoc has a municipal population of 34,727 and a
service population of approximately 59,000, with
annual circulation of just under 700,000 items. The
Information and Adult Services Department (IAS)
provides a well-received program of information and
adult services to the community. Young Adult services
are also provided by this department. In 2005, IAS
handled over 70,000 reference transactions and
provided 85 programs that reached an audience of 3,500
people. The IAS Department Head is a member of the
Library’s management team, supervising a staff of 11

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in library
science from an ALA accredited school. Three years
post-MLS experience doing reference work, preferably
in a public library setting. Experience as a
supervisor, and in a union environment preferred.
Demonstrable possession of knowledge, skills,
abilities, and capacities identified in "Job
Specifications" section of the job description.
Capacity to work under conditions described in
"Working Conditions" section of the job description.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The salary is $50,000. Excellent
