Joe, 

My patrons are mostly all children and I cannot tell you how many cards I've
handled that have obvious bite marks. One of my worst moments came when a young
patron handed me a library card that appeared to have spent a considerable
time lodged in a rat colony. When I commented on this his mother, who was
standing next to him, broke into a braying laugh and told me not only was he
prone to gnawing on his card, he had just that morning dropped it in the
toilet--eeeuuuccchhhh.


I maintained my professional demeanor with difficulty.
