LOCATION:             Children's Division
                                 Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library
                                 901 G Street, N.W.
                                 Washington, D.C. 20001 

HOURS:                   As scheduled within weekday hours 
                        	 8:45 A.M. - 9:00 P.M, and on Saturdays as
assigned             
 
FUNCTIONS:  Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, MLKML,
the incumbent serves as the division chief for the children's division at
the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library. The incumbent is responsible
for directing and coordinating a full range of children's library programs
and services to customers; interprets D.C. Public Library policies in
managing the division; develops and maintains a reference and circulating
collection of books and other materials to meet the needs and interests of
customers and directs reference and advisory work of the division; assists
library customers in the use of the non-circulating special book collections
such as the illustrator's Collection and Consultant Collection; supervises
the division staff; develops goals and objectives; devises schedules and
evaluates staff performance; attends meetings as scheduled and submits
reports on services. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have an MLS degree and one (1)
year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-11 grade level in the
1410 series. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is in or
directly related to the line of work of this position and has equipped the
applicant with the knowledge and competencies to successfully perform the
duties and responsibilities of the position.

KSA #1: Professional knowledge of theories, objectives, principles, and
techniques of children's                               librarianship.

KSA #2:   Skill in programming for all ages of children.	
   
KSA #3:  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with individuals inside and                          outside the
organization and skill in oral and written communication.     
 
KSA #4:   Skill and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Internet
Searching and email.
