[Publib] Self-check and security options

Candice,

We do not have RFID. We have 3M electromagnetic security. We are using
the ITG Apex XpressCheck machines for our self-check. Our DVDs are in
the One-Time security cases. ITG is working to integrate the unlocking
of the case into their software such that the customer will be prompted
to unlock the DVD during the checkout process AND the unlocker will not
allow for use until the DVD is checked out to the customer's account.
ITG has this working with the Kwik Case security cases so far. I am
anxiously awaiting the release of the solution for the One-Time cases.
At this point, we have unlockers available to our customers at
self-check and at our Circ desk if customers need assistance. This is
working well for us.

Subject: [Publib] Self-check and security options

Hello,

We will soon be implementing a couple of self-checkout
stations and are considering the security options (or not) for our DVD's
and CD's. Currently, the CD's and DVD's are in security cases and need
to be taken to a Circulation Desk clerk for checkout. For now, we plan
on the self-checks being for non-secured items only (books, magazines,
etc.) but for the future, we are wondering how other libraries handle
the security aspect of these materials with self-checkout stations.
Potentially we would like for all items to be able to go out through the
self-check machines. Do you use RFID so that the need for the security
cases is eliminated? Do you just not use security on your DVD's and
CD's? If you need more information, please just ask! I appreciate any
and all comments and look forward to your replies!

Thank you,

Candice
