One place I used to work had Muzak piped in. It was an electronics factory.
Every day, right at breaks, they'd play an upbeat version of "You're the
cream in my coffee." No kidding.

When I was in the navy they used to pipe in the AFRTS station and rotate
country, rock and other types of music. I had a speaker about eighteen inches
above my rack (bunk). I pulled out the wires; they got put back. This went
on for four years.

The only thing they had that I could stand was a very good Big Band station
that come on from time to time.

And yes, I am in favor of the Silence Rule; not just in the library but
nearly everywhere else. May the Almighty return us to the day when you could go
into a tavern and not hear music you didn't ask for nor watch television you
didn't want, either.

Go see Muzak on wikipedia. The company has lost money eleven straight
years.
