I think people who want music in the library tend to bring their own -- mp3
player, cd player, whatever -- and it's a lot harder to ignore music that's
playing than it is to handle *no* music at all. i think you'll get more
complaints about having music than you've had about *no* music. And I think
the objections from the hearing-impaired are more than valid and should be
seriously considered. Is there a way to direct the speakers so the
background music is only in certain zones?

That said, I guess you could use the speakers as a way to promote your CD
collection (if they haven't all been stolen already ;) ).

Did the board give any reason why they made the decision, other than it
seemed a good idea at the time?
