Best Practices in Virtual Reference: Meeting users any way, any where
Virtual reference provides unique opportunities to meet your user at the
user's point of need: wherever they are on the web, and whenever they
need help (even 24/7). Our panelists will discuss various aspects of VR
service:
- Quality of service: Marie Radford (Rutgers U) and Lynn Connaway (OCLC
Office of Research) will discuss their latest research, "Shared
Expectations: Getting Comfortable and Providing Quality Service in
Cooperative VR"
- Eliminating barriers to service: Heather Muller, Washington State
Library, will discuss serving users who utilize assistive devices (such
as screen readers), and the experiences of Washington libraries with the
new QuestionPoint chat interface.
- Promoting the service: Bill Pardue of Arlington Heights Memorial
Library, IL, will discuss tips for promoting their virtual reference
service, including link placement, partnering with community
organizations, and You Tube videos.
Join us for a lively discussion of how innovative libraries are using VR
to reach out to their users!
When: Saturday, June 23 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Where: Renaissance Mayflower, Chinese Room
