"Anyone who wants to be a good librarian should...actually TALK to people." Even more important than talking to people is to listen. Make sure you really are providing the services they want, not the ones you think they should have or should want. It's nice to love books or the wonders of the Internet, but most of all you must like people and want to help them. If not you're going to be miserable in your job and a miserable librarian.
