[Publib] flickr

I know that a number of acacdemic and public library special collections departments are using flickr to "advertise" their holdings through the posting of a representative (but usually tiny) sampling of their holdings. THis allows these collections to "point back" to their own digitized holdings, which is usually just a sampling of their analog holdings. But on their own site they can also post finding aids for their "offline" holdings. Used in this way, posting images to flickr is much like the old sandwich board form of publicizing your holdings and services. Some special collections are also using other Web 2.0-based sites to drive traffic to their own sites. For example, a number add to or create wikipedia articles that relate to their holdings, then provide links to their other online resources.

This is one way that libraries that I know are using flickr.

Colleagues:

I was interested in any experiences you may have with posting library pictures, etc. to Flickr, and any advantages/disadvantages.

Thanks,
