IMHO, it's good practice to treat ALL COWORKERS as valued colleagues and respect their contributions to the organization. I do not think that certain job categories require special treatment or deference.
I'm not sure what assumptions the following comment was based on but K.G. Schneider posted it in response to my message about problems with documentation and with getting IT help. In order to communicate with IT's "Help Desk" at my workplace, we were required to use an online work order software program IT purchased to expedite things. To be quite blunt, this tended to make it hard to be nice or nasty, let alone professional or unprofessional towards the IT staff.
